Covid Journal, Day 343: Sunshine

39 this morning, and another day of sun. There was no rain yesterday, but a lot of gusty wind, which brought down more of the broken branches from the ice storm.

Yesterday we went to pick up some things from a picker friend, and the day before we went to our booth and then over to Ohio to pick up a cabinet. So today I've been sorting and cleaning the things we picked up, as well as cleaning up the cabinet. And also worked on straightening out a dresser I've been working on. The way I painted it looked terrible, so it was sand it off and do it again. This particular kind of paint does not play well with the wax I used. You'd think I'd remember after having issues with it twice before, but I forgot. And there I was again, and all my own fault.

But I wasn't alone. Larry had worked on this dresser too, and what he'd done to tighten it up just didn't look right--it looked cobbled together, if you know what I mean. Those kinds of repairs are all right if it's something we keep because we're not that picky, but buyers want things to look nice, even if it's underneath where they can't see it. So he too had to start over on it, and now it's good and sturdy and looks great. Finally.

Since it's ember days, Larry decided to start burning some of the many, many downed branches in our yard. It's a good day for burning as the ground is soaking wet even if the sun is shining. He will be burning for quite a while, I'm afraid, to get rid of all that can't be cut into firewood.

We are so fortunate that there was no damage to our house, honestly. I still can't believe it when I look at the mess so close to us. This big branch is still hanging and may have to be pulled down with the tractor.

More branches down from the other large maple.

I've also been doing some eBay listings today, not many because I had quite a to-do list already. So these things are still waiting until I can get to them.

Along with a few several hundred other things packed away in totes and on shelves. I think I'm making headway, and then we find more, and there I am back again where I started. But it's a good problem to have, because sales have been quite brisk.

Oh, and my wine order finally arrived today!

When I opened it the bottles were all dusty. They'd have quite a tale to tell, if they could talk. But today, finally, all the ice and snow is gone from our driveway so I guess the driver decided today was the day. Amazingly, he hadn't opened even one bottle. I don't think I'd have blamed him if he had!

So onward we go, nothing really exciting but every day is still a new adventure around here. Tomorrow, booth work. That's always a good day--after we manage to get everything loaded that is.  But while running around yesterday I stocked up on books, so I'm all set for reading for a while. That is always a great feeling.

  1. That's a lot of branches to take care of, but doing a burn can be quite therapeutic, too. -Jenn

  2. Sure miss the burn pile days. There is something therapeutic about it.
You are busy. We have been lazy here, with no good excuse.

  3. Branches falling down is better than trees. Still, it's a lot of work.
