Out Like a Lion

29 this morning, frost here and there. 25 yesterday morning and never warmed up all day. 

March went out in a huff, with snow flurries, cold temps, hail, high winds, rain, sleet...messy weather for a couple days there. Today was pretty nice, about 50 and mostly sunny but still a chill in the air.

Larry finally got the potatoes planted. The weather has not cooperated much in March, so we're happy to have gotten in what we've managed so far. With the cold over the weekend, it was just as well. I still have plants to get out when the ground dries.

We put up one of the small greenhouses today, but no plants in it yet. The nighttime temperatures will still be pretty chilly all week, so I'm not in a rush. A few tulips are blooming, but the daffodils are pretty much done for. It was not the best year for them, sadly. I think that the older I get, the more it matters when the daffodils get ruined because the number of times I will see them is dwindling each year. Not morbid, just the truth. 

The cold weather hasput us back in the workroom. Larry finished up a tool cart to use at out booths--we can roll it in and out of the store. The owner is thrilled--there's room for some of her tools too, so we all win. I spent most of the week sorting and researching the things we bought at the auctions, and doing a lot of house catch-up work. We can sure clutter a place in a hurry. And it seems to take three times as long to get it all back to near normal again. 

I've also been painting, finishing up the china cabinet that was on hold for a while, and today I painted a curio cabinet. It's not old, from 1980 according to the date stamped on it, but it needed paint to cover some blemishes. It's coming along nicely.

Then of course we worked in our booths at one mall, the one we visit most often because we have 5 spaces there and sell a good bit. We helped the owner shift a lot of furniture she'd just bought, moving it from the front of the store to the back where she can work on it. A lot of heavy work, but worth it. That was Tuesday, and we also met up with my aunt and a cousin and his wife for lunch. That was so pleasant, as we haven't seen any of them since before the pandemic. Thank goodness for social media where we can at least stay in touch.

And the bulldozer has been working on the road for our granddaughter's cabin. It's exciting to see this actually happening. 

So life goes on. All good things, really. There were actually a few days with NO Covid cases reported in our county, which made me happy to hear. We have lost far too many people to this virus, and I so want to see it be over, although logic tells me it will continue to crop up in various forms for a long while yet.

Beyond these hills, there's the world news, and Ukraine. What can we say about that? It's horrifying, and my heart goes out to all those poor displaced people. I cannot imagine how it would be to have to walk away from my home and my life, with no idea what might lie ahead. The world is so full of displaced people--one reporter said there were about 90 million displaced people in the world right now. It's an unimaginable number.
