52 this morning, cloudy but a pretty day predicted. Leaves are coming down rapidly.
Yesterday I finally got around to making sweet pepper relish. I bought tbe peppers a week ago but seems like so many things got in the way of getting the relish made.
It looks a lot different than last year's pretty green relish. The peppers had mostly turned some shade of red/ orange, and they were a light yellow-green variety to begin with.
So I have an orange relish!
But the relish tastes delicious. Its made with vinegar, sugar, salt and mustard seeds. I had no seeds so used ground mustard instead.
After getting the relish made, I finished up this cabinet.
I must say, I am pleased with how it looks.
I worry that the top is chipped.
So often people will say, "oh dear, it's chipped", forgetting that these type of cabinets are at least 70 years old and were used heavily in the days before built-in cabinetry. You can see where this one has had meat grinders and similar tools clamped to its edges. I hope someone will appreciate it as it is.
Today is booth stocking day. We usually do that on Fridays but were waiting on a man to give us an estimate on a roof repair we need on our log room. So today we will catch up with ourselves.
We have an old Hoosier cabinet that was passed down in Spencer’s family. There are chips in the porcelain, but that makes me love it more. It tells the story of its life before our own. We honor the tradition by continuing to use it heavily.

ReplyDeleteI sure like the kitchen cabinet and if I had room for it, I wouldn't care that the enamel was chipped.
