44 this morning, cloudy and damp but no rain.
It has been a wild few days. Today I just want to sit in my recliner and do nothing at all, but we all know that won't happen.
Let's start with Wednesday: doctor visit. All was well, pretty much. I spent the rest of the day finishing up my Christmas decorations, listing on eBay, and working on a paint project.
Thursday was auction pickup. We won an interesting, and for me unusual, lot of stuff--everything from antique car parts to small wagon wheels to silverplate, vintage Christmas items, and much more. The van was loaded full, so Friday we unloaded, sorted, cleaned, listed, and packed it up,
Saturday morning we finished getting the porch cleaned off. Well, mostly. There's still a military trunk and an antique Underwood typerwriter out there, waiting to be dealt with. Then we were off to our youngest great-granddaughter's first birthday party. It was really nice, so many well-behaved children.
Granddaughter Hannah's reaction to the little redand black checked, faux-fur lined vest we bought for the baby.
We picked up a new-to-us dog right after the party, which was a stray found by a friend. We hope he will work out for us. He's part yellow lab and part something else, since he has blue eyes. Possibly Australian Shepherd? He's quite an active boy.
I got home and hustled to get some supper cooked--broccoli cheese soup--as granddaughter Grace was arriving from Nashville, on her way home to the other side of West Virginia after her semester a law school ended. Granddaughters Haley and her friend Desiree, Hannah and her husband and baby came over to visit with Grace, so we had an awesome evening with them all, just talking and laughing. They brought leftover cheese, crackers and fruit from the party which rounded out our meal nicely. How I love my grown-up grandchildren. I thought they were amazing when they were little, but now they are even more so.
Saturday morning we all met with son Derek for breakfast. I'd offered to cook for them all, but they wanted to eat out so that everyone could get on their way. After breakfast Larry and I hit Goodwill to see what we could find. Lots, as it turned out. This is just a very small amount of the great stuff they had that morning. Notice a Springtime theme here? We are planning to try selling at a vintage market this spring so I am getting ready.
This was the best find: a Waterford Crystal candler or votive holder. It sparkles so beautifully. I am thinking I may keep it.
After we finished shopping, it was home to sort again, clean house, and pack eBay; then I was off to a candledance at our favorite little place in town, West Virginia Artisans Market. I enjoyed it very much. Basically it is bellydancing, with candles in our hands. These were just battery candles, so I still have all my hair. Otherwise I am sure I would have burned it off. I found the dancing very relaxing, even though I am not very good at it. But it's good exercise, and now it looks like there will be a bellydancing class every 2 weeks after the new year. I am looking forward to that.
Today I made us a pancake breakfast, making apple topping from one wilted apple and some leftover applesauce. Both of us are a little tired, and ready to slow down a bit.
Then I packed more eBay--sales have been good, can you tell? --and now I am stopping for a bit to write this.
It was wonderful to have family in and out, all the noise and commotion and laughter. Now it's back to the two of us, at least until Wednesday, when grandson Jared will be home from California for a few days. We are looking forward to that.
You've been very busy, glad sales are going great for you. The Waterford Crystal candle holder is beautiful. It's been real cold here this week, -4C, the roads and footpaths are very slick. Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteSo great to have adult grands around...I'm hoping to see at least a few of mine this winter. You make me tired just reading about all your doings!!
ReplyDeleteWow, you have been busy! I enjoy my children in a whole different way now that they are adults, I can't imagine having grandchildren yet!
