56 this morning, cloudy and drizzle.
Yesterday we had rain all day, sometimes quite heavy, so there were flash flood warnings in our area. No problem for us as we are high above any water.
I am sorry to lose yet another friend. As head of the local Convention and Victor's Bureau, Mike Ruben was the driving force behind me developing the Ripley Ghost Walk. Everyone knew him, and he was often called Mr. Ripley because of his passionate love for his town. Be knew the town's and the county's history so well, and produced several films about the area. Rube will be missed by so many people. I am so flad to have known him. That big smile could lift any heart!
But please do not think that I am lost in sadness. Mike had a major stroke about 10 years ago and would be the first to tell you that he was thankful for every day he was blessed to love after that. Despite a somewhat limited mobility due to the stroke, he was as active and busy as anyone could be. I well remember on the ghost walk how he used his golf cart to follow along. Nothing really stopped him. So what I will focus on is that-- his love of life, sense of humor, passion for his town, and that determination live fully.
How sweet your tribute to your friend Mike, who set a good example to all of us, to live each moment to the fullest. I know there's a Mike-shaped-hole in your life for now, but hope it will heal as you get used to his goiing on to whatever may be next (or not.)
