47 this morning, a beautiful, warm, sunny day on tap. What a change from mid-week.
More visitors this weekend, as son Aaron, his son James and James' girlfriend are here to work on wiring Sarah's cabin. So it's back to the kitchen for me.
In the grocery store Friday evening, we saw this:
Too funny! Did someone change their mind, opting for a night of wine and no safety? I mean, safety was even reduced in.price!
Last night we enjoyed grilled bear burgers, the meat courtesy of our friend Jeff who lives a couple miles away. His 10-year-old son actually shot the bear, at a hunting preserve in Southern West Virginia. Since I had never cooked bear before I googled a recipe to be sure I did it right. I modified the recipe a bit, using 2 pounds of meat, 2 teaspoons of cumin, 2 chopped garlic cloves, a teaspoon or so of Worchestershire sauce, a teaspoon of salt and about the same of pepper. The burgers were delicious, and gone before I thought to take a photo. Baked beans and potatoes fried with onions and green and jalapeƱo peppers rounded out the meal.
Today will be simpler, probably spaghetti and a salad!
We picked up three more bushels of apples, so with the rest of the pears Larry will be making cider today. I will be canning pears and processing the cider. Where we will put the jars is another question, as the cellar is jammed full.
Friday was booth restock day, so I took a few photos of what we added. No furniture this time, just smalls. This week I will be sorting Christmas to bring to the booths late in the week. Closing today with a peak at our Friday's changes.
This the season for pretty dinnerware (I hope)!
If the guy drinks too much wine he'll fall asleep instead of worrying about 'safety!"
ReplyDeleteWe're back to colder weather, but it is bright enough, so that is good. My rough calculation in my head is that it is high 30s in your measurement. I am quite comfortable in Fahrenheit as we didn't switch until I was an adult. I can do rough equivalents in my head if required.
ReplyDeleteThat first photo made me laugh! I am constantly amazed at the energy you have to do all of your many projects. I'm not sure I would like Bear Burgers. I'm not a fan of venison and have never tried buffalo. But who knows the tricks that an old dog can learn.
ReplyDeleteI've had good bear and bad bear. It's been a few years since I've harvested a bear and even longer since I've eaten one. I usually give the meat away to those who wanted it.
ReplyDeleteI love the vintage graniteware. Did you love bear burger? I seriously would love to try some!!
ReplyDeletePart of me is glad that we do not have a lot of room, as we would fill it with some of that stuff. I really like the graniteware. I am not sure I would trust those discounted condoms!
ReplyDeleteI've only had bear in a stew once when I was in Alaska. It was good but it was also the last time I had it. That's a lot of wine, hope there's more than one person drinking it. :)
ReplyDeleteLet's hope those "safety" items were not on sale because they were old. lol I always like the items you keep in your booth. The wine cabinet is very nice.
ReplyDeleteHaving family over is always nice!
