It did frost this morning, but i think we escaped most damage as the temps were up to 24°f before the sun peeked over our hill. Fingers crossed! Showers this evening.
It has been a hard pull today, friends, but in the end it was a fairly good day.
Just as I told Larry the man would do, The Orange One pulled back on the tariffs. So all his rich buddies just got richer, buying up stock when it was down, knowing he would do exactly what he did.Well, we shall see what craziness this idiot pulls next. The last time one man had all the world in an uproar was Hitler, and we know how that turned out.
Still, life goes on for whatever reason. Besides the usual housework, I spent this cold day pricing three totes of items for the booths, listing a half dozen things on ebay and then spending half an hour on the phone with Viasat, our satellite internet provider, convincing them that we needed a service call because our internet is up and down all day. Which is a total aggravation.
To be fair, we have had this provider for about 15 years and have had very few issues. I think this is only our third service call. Apparently there is a bad bushing, allowing the dish to wobble or something, breaking the connection over and over. It has been getting progressively worse since January, but I kept thinking it was weather related.
The spotty internet has been a real headache because I was trying to finish up our taxes. Last week got so crazy I could not complete them, and then this week the internet connectivity has been terrible. But after my call with Viasat I sat there through outage after outage and persevered until I got them done. So yay me!
While I was doing my stuff Larry went out to feed our neighbor's lambs and other critters, as he has been doing all week while they are at the beach. He came home and checked our ramp patch and brought in a mess of those as well as a nice handful of asparagus, which is coming up despite the cold weather. Then he got started painting our log room, after a two-year delay. Friends, he is one messy painter! But the areas to be painted are high up and require ladder work, which I am not yet up to. So I will have to grit my teeth and try not to look up.
And that has been our day. I was frustrated with the internet and the taxes (Turbotax charges $288 for our simple business tax prep! Next year I will go back to doing them myself, as I did for years), and Larry hates to paint, so not a fun day.
In the evening, he built a nice fire, cracked open some Guinness and poured me some Chardonnay. We both felt we'd earned it. Then I put in a movie, Girl Interrupted. Have you seen it? It was a 1999 Academy Award winner, but I did not think I would like the topic of girls in a mental institution, but I found the movie completely absorbing, and oddly a welcome relief. Maybe because it makes one realize that one's problems are nothing compared to the struggles of these poor girls?
Now it is bedtime, and I pray that my dreams are not of numbers and paint tracked through the house. Good night, all.
Hopefully not a state of emergency.....
ReplyDeleteWe are getting higher temperatures but still chill winds.. confusing!!
That is odd, but a friend has been at a beach in South Carolina and said the same, high temperatures but a cold wind. They had to wear sweatshirts on the beach!
DeleteThat is a busy day! I hope your internet will be fixed now. I've begun the very slow process of going through the whole house, an hour or so at a time, cleaning Every Thing and planning how to organize things better. It's going to take weeks and weeks. Lately I've had a lot of dreams about doing housework, which just seems unfair!
ReplyDeleteOh boy, Quinn, what a project. It will be worthwhile, though. I am continually picking an area, sorting it out and cleaning it. It seems like a never-ending job.
DeleteThat internet thing would be so aggravating.
ReplyDeleteCould an actual tax consultant be not much more than Turbo? I get ours done now, and it is not hugely more expensive.
I think you're right, AC. When I started using TurboTax it was only 99.00. It was 169 last year, so a big increase!
DeleteWell, as you said, life goes on. still not done with the tax yet? I am just glad that I don't have to do it.
ReplyDeleteDone, finally! Such a relief.
DeleteHurray! Your taxes are done. That's one less aggravation you will have tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteYes!
Delete...we had our taxes prepared for $145.00.
ReplyDeleteDo you have a small business? That's what is costing me, I guess.
DeleteSuch a bother to have internet problems, and I sure hope they’ve fixed it. Hope your dreams were lovely.
ReplyDeleteThey were good dreams, thankfully. Thanks!
DeleteThat's quite a day! You both deserved that Guinness and Chardonnay! I keep on wondering what's next. You can guarantee it will be something!
ReplyDeleteI know. Not good for any of our nerves.
DeleteI gave up on doing my own taxes several years ago and let my accountant handle it. His fee is very modest and well worth it.
