Change

70°f/21°C, mostly cloudy, then turning sunny, humid and hot, with a high of 90°.

I thought today would be a day at home, but it was not to be. Larry needed finish nails for a cabinet he's repairing, and gas for the mower. I have been considering changing our cell service and possibly a different internet too, so I decided to go with Larry to town.

Oh. My. Great. Grandmother. Have you changed cell or internet service lately? How did I not know what a marathon it would be? 3 HOURS of sitting around while the staff at T-Mobile fiddled about on tablets. A gamut of fees, taxes, offerings of various phones and services later, and we walked out in a daze, but with 2 new phones, 2 airtags for our dogs, and a new internet service.

Or at least we hoped the internet would work. We have always been told that our location below the brow of the hill and with lots of trees isn't ideal. But if the T-Mobile thingies worked, we'd save about $80 a month. If not we'd only save about $25 and we'dhave to keep the satellite. It was a gamble

But it works! It's about as fast as our satellite, maybe better.  And no limits on data so we can join the rest of the world finally and stream stuff, if we want. Which means a new TV I guess, since ours is not a smart TV. There wasn't any need for one before. I'm not in a rush about that though. One thing at a time.

When we finally got home, I had all that setup stuff to do. Larry is clueless with tech stuff and escaped to go mow grass. I have most of it done, just the dog tags to fix up.

I knew there was a reason I have put off doing this, keeping my phone with the cracked screen and trying to not think about changing it up. Now the deed is done. Whew.

  1. We changed service to Telekom,. They sold it at our door, I was skeptical - who buys something at the door?! But they were real and it was done in no time and now my internet is much better.
    3 hours?! Why?

    1. I wish it was as simple as yours, Iris! No idea why it had to take so long. Grueling!

    1. Yes, I had hoped it might be even better savings, but there were so many things that had to be added. Kind of a scam, the way they advertise it as being so inexpensive. Still, a good savings, I think.

  3. You got better internet without resorting to Musk’s Starlink. That’s a win.

    1. Yes! I am not going to do that. Starlink is actually just as expensive as my satellite, plus a $600 setup fee. No thanks.

  4. We made the switch last spring to iPhones that had data. What a difference it has made but now we are too connected at times.

    1. Yes, data on phones is a life changer, but not all good. We have androids, no phones here. We could have got them with this change but I didn't want to add to the learning curve right now. Just getting these and getting the internet switched up was enough.

  7. I wish I could do something to reduce my internet/phone expenses - or at least improve the service! - but short of moving, there doesn't seem to be another option yet.

  8. Yes, I know what a frustrating challenge it is. Hope the new service works better for you. I can relate to the 'clueless' comment!

  9. I am the tech person at my house too. Changing providers is such a hassle. Even just getting a new phone, with the same provider, is a hassle these days. Glad you were able to come out ahead!

  10. Congratulations! I've been thinking about doing that change, too, but i fiddle-faddle about it.

  11. Oh, yes, it does seem to take ages to sort out anything like new phones and etc. I dread going into one of those places as it takes hours and lots of hassle to do something that seems quite simple:)
