The Wedding

73°f/22.8°C, breezy, light clouds. A few showers yesterday evening didnt amount to much. Possibility of more today. Fingers crossed!

Haley and Desiree's wedding was Saturday,  and it was beautiful.

The ceremony itself was held at a little gazebo at Valley Falls State Park, one of my favorites, and one that Haley frequently visits. The waterfalls provided a lovely backdrop.

My son walks his daughter down the aisle. The dress code for this wedding was pretty casual, since the event and the reception were both outdoors.

Haley's niece and nephew (granddaughter Hannah's children) played their roles well.

At their home, all was in readiness. Haley's mother (Derek's ex-wife but still froends)and Hannah worked hard to make it beautiful,  and I think they succeeded. Her youngest brother, Logan, was the DJ and he did a fine job too. And my ex George, Haley's stepfather Darrin, and Mt sons Derek and Aaron all helped getting everything in order in the day's prior to the wedding. A true family effort.

And then the guests arrived.

The tables were so pretty.

This captures Haley so well! She shook the champagne, so when she uncooked it, you can imagine!

Grandchildren: l to r, Grace, Michaela, James. These three all live in WV.

More grandchildren:

Kate, husband Jake and coming in January new baby!

Kate's little boy, who is 2, with thr blond hair.

Granddaughter Hannah, who was working so hard at picture taking and everything else, was hard to get a photo of!

Three of 5 sisters: Ally who came up from Florida, Kate from Virginia and Sarah, from Colorado. The other two were unable to come.

Grandson Jared, who flew in from California with his girlfriend, to be here for his sister's wedding, sons Derek and George.

Granddaughter Ashley came in from Colorado too. Here with Grace and Michaela.

Last, at least for today, Larry and I with the new couple.

My sister Maggie, from Eastern Shore Maryland, was a surprise guest! I wish I had taken a photo with her, and also one with all the grandchildren, but I was so surprised by how many of our family came, and was so busy visiting that I didn't get near as many photos as I would have liked.

  2. Sounds like a wonderful family event. That happens to me sometimes when I get involved and get many fewer pictures than I had intended.

    1. Taking photos means distracting from what's going on sometimes, doesn't it? Ah well, I am sure there will be good pictures from others.

    1. Right? I was surprised at first, but then given how they are their outfits made sense.

  5. A truly special family occasion. Others probably have photos to share with you. Do you ever make a shared album on iPhoto which others can add to? My niece dressed the same way for her wedding, though her bride wore a lovely gown. I only know this from the photos. They chose a very private ceremony and had a huge celebration later which we couldn't attend.

    1. I dont have an iPhone so dont know about shared albums. But that is a great idea.
I think we usually assume that in gay couples one is more "feminine" or more "masculine" than the other, but I guess that's not always the case? These two are both what we used to call tomboys, very capable and outdoorsy. Which showed me that the stereotypes dont always apply.

    1. It was beautiful, and such fun, Iris! Even my ex was nicer than he has been since our divorce 40+ years ago. Amazing. Not a snide word from him. A first!

  8. A lovely get together to celebrate the wedding, but just as important in itself.

Well done on catching the photographer!

    1. It was not a great photo of her, but I will try to find a better one! She was just so busy all evening. A good sister, she is.

  9. The size of your family is amazing. We are down to 6 in all (3 generations) , and one we seldom see or hear from.

    1. That is a small family indeed, AC. We too have a few we seldom see or hear from. One is right here just a few miles from me. She always says she is coming to our gatherings, or coming to visit, but rarely does. Then therebis my Florida son, who has estranged himself for reasons none of us understand. But that's their choice. They know they are loved and welcome.
