Loved the pink hardhat!
Posted this last week, but it's worth posing again.
This is the oldest house in Ravenswood, WV, built by the niece of George Washington on land he gave to her on the Ohio River. Washington, in his surveyor days, laid claim to thousands of acres along the river, and actually camped near this house site.
We went for a tour of the house, which is for sale, because I was curious about the renovations. Our son Derek had looked at it on 2005 when it was also for sale; it was in bad shape but still had huge wavy glass windows and the original first house, a log cabin, attached to the back. Unfortunately, the renovations have completely erased its character, trying to glass over the defects with laminate and paint. Poor house. Even the gorgeous old windows are gone.
Look what they did to that fireplace! So sad.
The floors are so uneven you could trip on them. Not the place for a tipsy person!
From Facebook but sure makes me laugh!
And last, a Goodwill find a couple months ago. I never see these in a thrift, and the glass one is especially nice. At $3.99 each, I thought they were a great deal.
All for today. Back to cleaning!

Well, I'm glad I don't have to do my wash with a washboard! Hooray for washers and dryers! ;)
ReplyDeleteLove the first sign and agree, sad about the house. FB sure made me laugh big!!!!
ReplyDeleteI too am saddened by what happened to the historic house. It’s a shame when people doing renovations. Don’t know what they are doing especially when they totally ruin the house.. The Lowe’s freezer sign made me laugh thanks for visiting my blog. I’ve been a fan of Tom for many years.
ReplyDeleteLove them all and love that pink hardhat.
ReplyDeleteYikes on the floors and the fireplace. Double yikes.
Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. ♥
...Susanna, thanks for taking a break from cleaning, be well.
ReplyDeleteToo bad the most of the historic elements are gone from that house. However, historic designations are very expensive to fix because everything has to be approved and be consistent with the period. Wish there had been a grant or something for this house.
ReplyDeleteThe freezer poster is quite helpful really.
ReplyDeleteThe Lowes one made me laugh too!
ReplyDeleteThat is sad about the house. No one likes character anymore.
ReplyDeleteToo bad that old house had all its character erased.
ReplyDeleteInteresting signs.
ReplyDeleteHiding all the beautiful hand-craftsmanship of a historic building just loses the point of it being historic. Might as well put a trailer up and say it's on the site Washington once owned!
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised the house didn't have protective status. That is a real shame.
ReplyDeleteI'm not fond of that fireplace. Why do people even buy a house like that one if they're going to change it so much.
ReplyDeleteHi there-I just found your comment on my Blogger blog (thank you!); I was contemplating a change to blogger when typepad was struggling. Then typepad went out of business and I discovered that WordPress was the only platform that could take my typepad archives. So, I'm at https://stargazermargaret.com if you're interested.
ReplyDeleteI think that house is gorgeous but I'm a little tippy in the morning; how did that happen? I'm getting old!
I like all the signs, a few made me smile or laugh. :) Warm greetings from a retired lady living in Montreal, Canada.
