Making Merry

42°f/5.6°C, cloudy after overnight showers.

The table was full!

We had a great time yesterday. I made a simple breakfast of ham and cheese crescent rolls. We had a quiet morning, then I put in the ham and turkey and began getting the table ready. The crowd arrived right on time! We ate, snapped the crackers and put on the crowns that were inside, and read riddles as we unwrapped gifts.

Granddaughter Haley arrived like Santa, carrying a huge bag of gifts. She loves Christmas and especially loves giving gifts. She gave Larry a jack--in-the-box!

Everyone knows my man loves goofy toys. Even granddaughter Sarah sent him a roll of gag toilet paper--it is impossible to put sheets off the roll. So you know he had that staged in the bathroom, and got his first victims! Hannah came out asking,"Granny, what the heck is up with that toilet paper!" Derek had already tried it but he stayed mum, waiting for someone else to try it. Of course there was a good roll in there too!

Derek gave us an Instant Pot, so I will be learning to use that. I think it will be a good addition to our kitchen.

A nice hummingbird feeder and fuzzy blanket,

a wood tic tac toe game, and a handmade WV ornament completed our gifts.

The room was a happy mess as the little ones played with their toys and made super balls with a craft kit. The ribbon candy was a big hit with them, as I guess they had never seen it before. It's an old-fashioned treat for sure, and I was thrilled to find it while out shopping.

After everyone left,  Larry and I cleaned up. Lots of glass to wash because I happily pull out a lot of my antique Early American Pattern Glass pieces to use, including 2 punch bowls. I don't want anyone else to have to wash all that old glass! Then it was time to settle back and enjoy the fire and the quiet once again.

I won't have to do much cooking for quite a while! Quite a bit went home with our guests, but there are still lots of leftovers, so we will eat well for days.

    1. We took today very slowly, nothing on the agenda except a trip to town to pick up a couple things. Then a stop for coffee and a xgat with two friends, and home for a light supper and a fire. Restful!

  3. We had a good time yesterday as well, even though it was just the two of us. Mrs. F.G. cooked a turkey with all the trimmings, so there are lots of leftovers. My favourite part is the stuffing!

    1. Oh, nice! We have had years when it was just the two of us, and the simplicity of that has its own charm. Would you believe I never make stuffing? I don't like it, and it just seems like a lot of bread, I e. carbs that I would rather eat as, say, pie!

    1. I do cook a lot, just years of habit. So we eat a lot of leftovers, lol! A lit of yesterday's spread went home with others. I consider this meal a part of our Christmas gift to those who come.

  6. We are having leftovers tonight. I combined the mashed potatoes, carrots, sliced turkey and gravy, added peas, then topped it with stuffing. It's in the oven as a pseudo shepherd's pie!

    1. That sounds good! Turkey on leftover rolls for us, with some veggies and potato salad.
