Almost Wordless Wednesday: Around the House

38°f/3.3°C, overcast but the rain didn't arrive. Much of the snow has gone; our little creek sounded like a waterfall last night, carrying away the runoff.

Getting into some Valentine's Day colors a little late. I never unpacked my actual decorations this year.

The cream and sugar in the above photo belonged to my mother.

No idea who this lady is. She was in the frame when I got it, but I need to put one of mine in there!

Yesterday I figured I'd better sort out what to wear for granddaughter Cassie's wedding, which is in two weeks. The invitation stipulated "your best semi-formal or cocktail attire". Gulp! Did I even own anything like that? A dig into the back of the closet where I kept some of my storytelling clothes did the trick. A long travel knit dress in deep brown, with a burnout velvet shawl in deep ambers, greens, and rust, with sparkly beads. Next a dig into another closet for shoes. Plain black wedge heels, and I think I will pass. Whew, shopping trip avoided!

  1. ...nice to see, we still have our tree up and our Christmas decoration out!

  2. Very elegant outfit for the wedding! And so much pretty glass to display and enjoy. Is there a special name for those tilting frames? I've always loved that design of a frame, in part because it makes so much sense to be able to tilt an image for best viewing without glare or reflections or such. Now I wonder what happened to the ones my parents had...

  3. You have the best glassware. Beautiful pieces and I like your dress!

  4. I think your outfit will do nicely. I have a few dresses for more formal occasions, but the shoes are always the hard part for me. Nothing is more comfortable than my running shoes. :)

  5. How fortunate that you found a great outfit suitable for the occasion and didn't have the agony of clothes shopping ( I always assume my friends all hate clothes shopping as much as I do).
I always admire your windows with the lace curtainsđź’– and the pretty glassđź’–.

  6. If I had to wear semi-formal or cocktail wear I'd have to decline the invitation! Just about everything in my closet is denim or fleece, apart from a pair of black pants and a couple of very old tops!

  7. Shopping for clothes that you don’t want or otherwise don’t need would be painful.

  8. You certainly will pass. I do know no matter how far I dig in my own closet. I won't pull out an outfit like that. I would not pass

  9. Oh, my, I'm in glass envy! Beautiful. I also really like your dress. It looks front of the closet to me.

  10. Shopping isn't my cup of tea, so it's nice you were able to avoid it. Pretty Valentines Decorations, and how nice you have family pieces. Nice you found something so appropriate in your closet.

  11. I have a weakness for glassware, and dinnerware, and flatware, well, you get the picture. I do love what you have here, particularly the cranberry glassware, and the pink. How romantic for Valentine’s Day.
