It had to happen sometime. So much as I don't want to, I am gathering totes and putting away Christmas.
About all I got done otherwise was to get my sales reports finished up find the spreadsheet, and vacuum seal the juts Larry has been shelling. Now they will go into the freezer, where they will keep very nicely.
I am going to miss the tree, which I have not yet started to put away. I may leave it up for Old Christmas on January 6th. You can just see that big wagon we picked up last Sunday. Larry has cleaned and polished it up, so it's ready for our booth. I dont know what brand it is, but it is much bigger than the usual Radio Flyer. We could not find a game on it anywhere.
The other fun today was replacing the evaporator fan motor in our fridge, again. This makes the third time we have replaced it, which makes me think there is a defect in this fridge. It is less than 5 years old! I am going to buy another motor to keep on hand, as i did this time, because it is sure to fail again. It isn't a difficult fix, but a hassle nonetheless. The old fridge that was given to us last year is still going strong and it's at least 20 years old. If it wasn't so unsightly I'd have it in the house I stead of this newer one. It's fine for a garage or in our case the cellar top, but not for in the house.
As I was writing this I happened to look up, and was greeted by this sight.
So of course I dashed out the door to see if I could get a better photo, but in those few secondsthe light had faded dramatically.
And then I noticed the view in the other windows.
Ah, how I will miss the warmth and twinkle of the tree! To me, a Christmas tree, particularly an old-fashioned one like mine, embodies all that I love about the season: light, warmth, sparkle, joy, memories, willingness to believe in magic, and the sense of just relaxing and enjoying all the goodness our life offers. We so often lose sight of those things in the humdrum of daily life, and our tree reminds us to rediscover it all.

Everything comes to an end, even holidays. (And plastic totes, it seems.)
ReplyDelete...I have totes without lids and lids without totes too. Maybe we could match up!
ReplyDeleteI like the sunset pic. The composition is very nice.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same about our Christmas tree. Our fridge is 10 years old and evaporator heater replaced twice. Kathy
ReplyDeleteDon't have to wait until Dec. to put the X'mas tree out :-))
ReplyDeleteWe had to replace the fan twice on one fridge when something we had on the front of it fell down under the it and got sucked up by the fan and broke it. Our kids were little at that point and we had their work up on the fridge. However, after the second time, we had to find new places to display their art.
ReplyDeleteYes to getting rid of some old totes...and I'd like to no longer have all the stuff that's also stored in them. I think that may be slowly happening. Love your tree through the window...a good card could be made from that shot.
ReplyDeleteOur decorations typically come down the day after Christmas. That is funny about the lids, we have a stash of them in the shed, leftovers from totes that broke through the years.
ReplyDeleteThe photo of your tree.....❤️ I have very little to put away and I also have totes without lids and lids without totes.

ReplyDeleteMissing socks, yes! And my mini-tree needs water, thank you for the reminder! Hope your fridge-problem get´s solved.
Great, arty, pics. Yes, I will miss all the lights, too - our neighbor knows it and lets them on into January for me :-) Have a great 2026!
OK -- I just ht something on my keyboard and lost the comment. So here goes again. I hear you on the totes. What IS it with that? I don't know where they go -- or why. Good luck. I'm leaving my big tree up till the 15th, maybe taking down the smaller one in the family room and here sooner. I'm moving one into the living room, though stripping the Christmas ornaments and putting on woodland things -- not Christmas. I didn't get that tree out this year and the lights will cheer me.
ReplyDeleteThe same thing happens with tupperware too! And I also love seeing Christmas trees in windows.
ReplyDeleteTo night is the last night for our tree. We store Christmas in a huge old trunk, which will be taken upstairs to the attic while it is empty. I will haul the boxes of decorations up there to put in the trunk. I will miss the tree too.
ReplyDeleteI'm just in the middle of doing that. It's a pain! But glad you enjoy Christmas so much!
ReplyDeleteI need to buy a bigger tote and combine all my ornaments. I have them in 4 boxes now. I also have a tote without a top. No idea where it went to. That photo of the tree through the window is so pretty.
