You would not think a small white goat
could cause such a terrible row
she ran into the store and then
she stood atop the lumber pile
The two young men who worked that day
gave chase across the parking lot
they tried to catch the goat but still
she stood atop the lumber pile
She ran with clumsy grace and ease
on thin legs built for mountain speed
they ran in boots so heavy, while
she stood atop the lumber pile
No one minded the lumber store
so the telephone rang and rang
customers waited in line yet there
she stood atop the lumber pile
I wish the goat had got away
but finally she was cornered
cell phone photos captured the end
a goat chained to the lumber pile
My name is Daniel, and I was one of the guys in "boots so heavy" that day. Just wanted to say thanks for the poem! I have not been with 84 for a few years now, but it brings back good memories. That was quite a day. Not surprised to see it immortalized on the internet! Anyway, thanks for a good laugh and a good bit of nostalgia.

Hi Daniel, that was quite a day--so funny. It's not something you see every day. Nice to find that the poem is still being seen here and there, and the goat remembered!
ReplyDeletelol yeay turned out that goat had escaped from a farmer not far away. btw i heard that 84 is closed down:(
