Red and Green Finds

Tis the season for red and green, so I've been dragging out the colored glassware I've found recently and using it to decorate. I was surprised at how much I had! Red is my favorite colored glass but apparently I like green too.

In the kitchen I used two green Hazel Atlas dessert dishes, a red Anchor Hocking bubble plate and a red (it's painted though) sandwich glass footed dish along with red hobnail votives and some tiny glass ornaments to create a splash of Christmas along with a pretty soap dispenser, peppermint candy, and a kitchen angel.

I found these ruby and green cups and the ruby bowl for a steal at an antique mall--not where you would normally expect to find deals, but one booth was having a half-price sale. My kind of place!

I'll post photos this weekend of how I plan to use these cups, along with other "red" arrangements.

I'm still working on other decorations, and here's Christmas only one week away.  It will come, whether I am ready or not, and we will enjoy it as we always do. Are you ready yet?

  1. I wanted to do more decorating but I don't know if I'll bother with it being so close now. I didn't even think about my green dishes! I'll pull those out of the cabinet now too.

I look forward to seeing how you use these.

  2. I know, Jenny. It caught me this year--Larry was away most of the first two weeks and I couldn't get the decorations down by myself so I had to wait til he got home. Then we had catch-up work to do and I had storytelling performances to work on. Now it's too late to worry about it, so I'm not :) I can use my red candles, silver candle holders, red and green dishes and glassware and fresh greenery--and that, along with the tree and a few other things I did get out will be enough. The idea is to enjoy it, not get stressed about it, and that's what I plan to do.

  3. Gorgeous!! I have put out fewer Christmas decorations this year. My plan it to rotate different "stashes" of lovelies. The many frogs mean that there is plenty of green, to which I've added extra red . . .
Speaking of lovelies, and frogs, I found you well-packed box this morning when I went out for the paper! I tried to tell my inner child to wait at least until I made coffee, but my inner child is fairly irrepressible . . and now very happy. I love the silly frog puppet! The glass frog has joined others next to the "Seek Harmony" yoga frog. Dishes are on the kitchen counter, looking cute, and the little table cloth -- I can't get over the neat and beautiful embroidery! Mine is never quite so tidy . . .
Thanks! I did put a free CD offer on my website, to join in the fun!

  6. I love the pyramids of red and green glass, they look really festive, I shall have to go and have a look round some local antique malls and see whether I can find a few pieces for next year.
