To say we're tired is an understatement, but it's a good tired. We had a great two days at the Ripley on Sale event on the courthouse lawn in Ripley, WV, coming home with a good deal less than half of the things we took.
This was definitely our best year at this sale, and I think the reason was that we were pretty much the only vendors there with primitive/rustic type stuff. There were others who brought some of these kinds of items, but we were the only ones with predominantly rusty gold, as it's called.
So what did we bring? Ladders, wood boxes, old buckets, buggy wheels, old chairs, and the like. Along with a few small tables, some (very little) good glassware and vintage kitchen stuff and a few lamps.
But the most popular items, besides the rustic things, were the 25-cent items! I had six flats of such things--items that came in lots with other things we'd bought, things will little chips in them, things that fall into the "what was I thinking" category. People stopped and browsed those boxes and often bought something. Some brought a lot of them, so by the end of yesterday we had less than a flat left, and that Larry took to the Goodwill at the end of the day. Good riddance!
We had a blast. We saw people we hadn't seen for years, had a quick visit with a granddaughter, and chatted with our good friend Suzy who stayed to help both days. It was hot and humid, but under our canopy it was bearable, and we enjoyed just being there to see friends.
Today is unloading day, and sorting-it-all-out day. It won't take too long thankfully. Then we start gathering more of the same for the upcoming big flea/antique market over the Fourth of July.

That sounds like a very good time! I love those porch swings and thought about putting one up now that I have the portico rafters to hang one from, but the fact is the black flies and mosquitoes would just consider it a convenient dining opportunity if I stayed in one place long enough to enjoy the swing. I guess I could use it in Winter, though...hmmmm...that's a thought!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, in case you don't see my reply on Comptonia, Tipper's mother has one of the kerria shrubs and calls it a yellow rose - it really does look like a little rose! No rose aroma, but also no thorns!

ReplyDeleteSounds like a good time. Decided what will sell in any given area must be difficult at times. Here old stuff repurposed seems to do well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the photos, I always enjoy seeing them.
Love seeing your finds and fixes gathered together - good sale day.
