Covid Journal, Day 223: Old Folks Halloween

Cloudy and gusty, but warmer than yesterday. Beautiful full moon last night, a blue moon as it was the second full moon in a month. Yesterday morning we had frost, but nothing was damaged. I expect that to change tonight, for snow flurries are in the forecast. Today, it definitely looks like November.

Very gray, and leaves flying everywhere.

Did you have a good Halloween? We puzzled over how to give out treats, assuming we had anyone show up. I decided to use a grabber, and individually bag the treats. Those are pears in the background, canned on Friday.

That worked well for keeping a good distance and no contact, but sadly we had only 2 children show up--a 50's poodle-skirted girl and Joe Dirt. Still, we had fun.

A little fireplace soot and a candle,

cold cream and mascara were our makeshift make-up

We played, lit the firepit, opened some cider, put on some creepy music, and sat outside to enjoy the beautiful evening and the moonrise until the fire went out and we got cold.

Then we came inside to watch Practical Magic, one of our favorite videos.

So a different kind of Halloween for us, and I enjoyed it very much. Most years I'm either storytelling, or worn out from storytelling so I don't have the energy to dress up or do anything much for this day, but this year is different. A side benefit to the Covid mess is having time for things like this.

Today we will finally pull the tomato plants, bring in some of the begonias, and put away some of the garden decorations, fences, etc. Definitely time to say goodbye to the last vestiges of summer.

    1. It was fun, Jenn--a little cold cream and mascara can go a long way. It was really spur of the moment. We hadn't planned anything, but then I got a bug in my brain. It was good to laugh and be silly for a change.

  2. You definitely did more than we did! I found some felt animal masks at the Dollar Tree for $1 each, a fox & a lion. I bought them for my grandson to play with but when he came by to trick or treat us Papa & I wore them.

He came inside with his parents, we took a few pictures, he colored some with his mamma while the men talked then they went home. Oh...& he brought treats for us too. His mamma always has him bring treats to all of his grandparents on Halloween...homemade. I think it's very sweet.

  3. I put on my dragoon costume so LJ thot about his for 3 minutes -- he asked for the old man mask, a black hat and found his old trench coat. He won the day. Wish blogspot would let me put a photo in the comments.

  4. Great job with the makeup. We are all in a lockdown for the next 5 weeks so nothing happened here. Definitely a different kind of year. Enjoy your week.
