50 this morning, a lovely start to the day--until it got too hot. High of 82, yuck.
We usually have some cannas growing in one garden. We planted them 5 years or so ago, and although they are not supposed to winter over in our area, these have survived somehow from year to year. Last year I noticed that the flowers formed large seeds, and I wondered, could I start new plants from those seeds?
So of course I googled it, and found out that yes, I could. I saved the seeds and a couple weeks ago stuck them into some potting soil. This is the result:
Now to see if I can keep them alive and get them in the ground. I'm thinking I will have to give this another try next year. It might be a way to get some different varieties of cannas. I noticed that the planters in town were full of canna seedheads last fall...
Interesting! My gardener husband didnt know this!
