Onward

25 and clear. Cold morning, warming up but there are changing weather clouds in the sky so I expect rain tomorrow.

Another busy, busy day. We didn't go out to dinner last night after all. After a full day, I was happier to stay home and cook than to have to go out again. I had thawed out some deerburger so I made a big pot of spaghetti, salad and garlic bread to feed the hungry hunters. We had a great evening, sitting around the kitchen table as the guys swapped stories and memories. My oldest son and his best friend of 45 years had some hilarious tales of their younger days, stories I'd never heard before. Our Navy grandson ate hugely, and was so glad to be here. What a good time we had.

They all went back out today and had better luck than they'd had all week. Our freezer is stuffed, and I am so grateful. No worries about meat this year.

Earlier in the day I performed my first wedding ceremony as a Marriage Celebrant. A good friend had asked me if I would do the paperwork so that I could be the one to conduct their wedding, and I was honored to do so. It was interesting, a combination of Appalachian and Jewish traditions. I never thought this would be something I could do, but now I am all set if anyone else should need my services. How strange life can be.

I also did the grocery shopping for Thanksgiving after the wedding. Talk about going from the sublime to the mundane. The store was crowded but contrary to what the media has been saying there was plenty of everything. I even bought 4 turkeys to can later because they were on sale for 49 cents a pound with no limit on how many I could buy.

Today Larry was back out hunting. I got up with him at 5:00am, and have renewed respect for all those people who have to do that every day. I did my housework, caught up laundry, went over to our booth to continue stocking, came home to put up deer meat and bake pies for tomorrow. Right now I am well and truly tired, but it was a good day all in all.

Tomorrow I'll be cooking again, this time for my third son and his daughters. I've got some new recipes to try out for the sides, and am looking forward to a nice day. I hope your Thanksgiving is peaceful and joyous, my friends.
