Jam Day

31 this morning, warming to 64 under cloudy skies. Rain expected tonight so yes, there will be more mud.

We finished the last of the venison stir-fry today . I swear, I think it was better with age! The pineapple chunks that I canned last fall sure gave it a nice zing. Tomorrow I think it may be pork chops and the sauerkraut I made last summer. Good for these winter days.

Today was jam-making day. I tried yesterday but had to stop because I was out of lids. A stop at the store in the evening fixed that, so I was all set.

Now, if my jam will just set. The nice thing is that if it doesn't we will have some delicious syrup.

We are still struggling with our new dog, Buddy. He just wants to run off all the time. Larry had to go find him twice today. Fortunately we live in a very rural area with few neighbors, but still it is a bother to people to have to find his owner if he shows up at their house. This morning I ordered a tag with our address and phone number, and an electronic fence that can supposedly cover 700 acres. Until that comes, he will have to be tied up when he is outside and I hate that.

I put out a bit more Valentines decorations, although I see these as more about "heart", as in caring, sensing, empathy, mindfulness. All of which mean more than Hallmark cards to me.

While I was in the store yesterday I noticed that they had already put out seeds and gardening supplies. I was so tempted to browse, but I knew I would get list in there, and I had little time for that! So I steeled myself and went right by. I can't guarantee that I will be so good next time.

Leaving you with these photos from yesterday evening as I was driving out our road. The first, hard to see I am afraid, is of a huge flock of turkeys that crossed the road in front of me. I didn't count but I think there must have been 50 of them and I had the wait several minutes. Even then, there were more coming up the hill as I drove through a gap in the crowd. And yes, that pole! It has been leaning like that for years, and probably won't be fixed until it falls, unfortunately.

Second is the small watershed lake--pond really-- near the end of our road, just after sunset. I was in a hurry, but the sunset was too pretty to ignore, as you saw in yesterday's post. This is the last of it, reflected in the lake.
