Back ro Work

55f this morning after a night of frequent heavy rains. Cooling down this evening, and tomorrow will be back to highs in the 40s.

Dinner with friends last evening was lovely, just three ladies since Larry opted to go hunting and the other man invited was sick. We ate delicious leftovers of ham, prime rib, and all the fixin's,  and talked and talked.

Our hostess was widowed in 2022 and I think struggles with being alone, especially at holidays. Her home is a testament to love, designed by her husband and built of wood he cut and milled. Most windows are partially made with his stained glass work, and the whole home is filled with family heirlooms and antiques the two of them collected. My friend understandably does not want to move, but her home's isolated location makes me wonder if it might not be a good idea, especially as she will turn 80 this year.  But in her place, would I want to leave? I don't think I would.

Today we were back to work. Well, I have actually been working on some small pieces off and on over the holidays, and since we sold a couple pieces of larger furniture, we needed to bring them to our booth. Friday we will restock at our other location.  Here's a look at some of what we did today.

There is a secret inside this cabinet: a wood file holder. I painted this one a color I mixed myself, and I like it a lot. This one was owned by a late writer and educator, and seems to have been built for her. It is on wheels, so can easily be moved around, and the file holder can be removed. I changed the hardware too, just to update it a bit.

There is a secret inside this cabinet too, or rather,  on its back: a fold-out ironing board.
I painted this one too, and changed the knob. Ibrhink it would make a sweet bathroom cabinet.

Since we sold the white china cabinet, I needed some shelving for the things that were in the cabinet, so Larry knocked this white shelf together from scrap wood and an old door, then I painted and distressed it.

Did a little rearranging while we were there too.

Oh, and brought in an old wringer that had been waiting until we could clean it up.

I re-staged this lap tray, taking out a few Christmas items in the bargain. I will pull all the Christmas things within the next 2 weeks.

Tomorrow I will be working on this big guy. It will be painted white to mask veneer issues. It has a glass door too, and shelves to goninside. I hope to finish it in the coming week.

So, back to normal after the holiday lull!

  3. I understand why there isn't, but I so wish there were pictures of your friend's house. It sounds incredible. If she ever does decide to sell it, I know of a young home hunting couple with old souls who would love to look at it.
I really like your approach to your booths. So many of them are filled with new items, much like a craft booth. You approach of having old, refinished items is the way to go.

  4. Yes, you would love her house, Jim. It is always a pleasure to visit her. And thank you for the kind comment about my booths. I try to have a variety so that there is something for almost everyone.

  8. One of the most difficult decisions in life must be the necessity of leaving a home filled with memories and a place that you love. There comes a time when that choice has to be made and I am sure it is not one any of us look forward to. Glad you were able to get together and share dinner.
