50°f this a.m., clear, dry and sunny. A perfect morning.
We had lots of visitors this weekend! A very good time with much conversation, laughing, and of course good food.
Oldest son George and his daughter Grace came for the weekend. What a nice visit Friday evening! We missed the big Northern Lights show entirely, having no idea it was going on. But that's okay. I have seen them from here twice, and actually those were visible to the naked eye, although I wonder, if we had had cellphones back then, what the photos might have looked like. I did get this one odd photo Saturday night around midnight. Was this the lights? I don't know.
Breakfast Saturday morning was a real treat: strawberries picked from our garden that morning, whipped cream from the fesh milk we now buy, and waffles. It has been 40 years since I made such a meal. So delicious.
That day included a trip to an organic farm in search of blackberry plants. They had none available but we did buy some comfrey/stinging nettle salve that is supposed to be good for arthritis, and while it poured rain and was 48 degrees, we ate the lady's superb homemade raspberry ice cream. Cold but worth it!
We went out to dinner with in the evening with our son Derek, our friend Mark, George and Grace for ribs night at a local restaurant that does a stellar job with them.
Sunday morning after breakfast (fried potatoes, eggs, sausage and toast) George and Derek went golfing (yes, on Mothers Day, but these two rarely get an opportunity to see each other, and it rained Saturday. I know my guys and knew as soon as George said he was coming that golf would be part of the weekend!). As soon as they left, the second breakfast shift arrived--granddaughter Haley with her partner Desiree', and granddaughter Hannah with her two little children.
The girls ate, then went up to Sarah's cabin to do a couple things for her. This is the only picture I took of them! I so often forget to take photos. But you can see Desiree's new truck and Hannah's new-to-her car, just bought yesterday.
Grace and I potted up some flowers, hoed in the garden, and made spaghetti in the afternoon after the other girls left. Son Aaron arrived just in time for early dinner. This is his ride, a 1972 Mercury Cougar he restored.
So visits with 3 sons, 3 granddaughters, 2 great-grands, phone calls from youngest son Tommy, granddaughter Sarah and grandson Clayton, and messages from other grands...it all added up to a wonderful Mothers Day weekend. Now everyone is gone, the house is quiet, and I need to get out in the garden while it isn't raining and get some weeds under control. I was exhausted last night, in a good way, but a good night's sleep has me ready to get back to work. My knee is still hurting but bearable, and is better each day, thank goodness.
