17°f, or about -8°C, clear and dry. Some snow still lingering in shaded areas.
It's a bit nippy out there this morning! At least we don't have 3 feet of snow on the ground like Erie, PA. Was it Debby who said that once Lake Erie freezes there won't be these heavy snowfalls? That makes sense, as the storms are picking up moisture as they pass over the lake, but then I wonder, does Lake Erie usually freeze over? Or just around the shoreline? I remember once when I was driving home from a presentation at a conference in Albany, NY, that I ran into the heaviest fog I had ever seen. I had traveled with a friend, staying at her home in Buffalo and doing a little storytelling there before heading home. That fog was quite beautiful, the vineyards on one side heavy with golden grapes, woodland on the other side, and beyond the woods, the Lake. Then suddenly the fog began to lift, and this lighthouse loomed into view.
It was an eerie, beautiful drive, one that has stuck in my memory.
I was just listening to the morning news and heard that Biden had pardoned his son Hunter. Oh dear. That will have repercussions, won't it. In other news, Trump's proposed tariffs: repercussions coming there too, if he carries through with them. I bet though, that if he ever ate at a Tim Horton's, he wouldn't be putting that tariff on Canada!
Seriously, though, the tariffs will certainly cause a huge jump in prices, and on inflation, particularly the one proposed for Chinese goods. Waiting for that shoe to drop, and wondering if there is any major purchase we need in the foreseeable future that comes from there. Chinese components are in so many things, it is hard to know what will be impacted, but I think it is safe to say that every single US citizen will feel that tariff. If it happens.
Getting away from the grim morning news, did I mention that Larry got a deer last week? We got it cut up and in the freezer last Wednesday. Oldest son George and his son Clayton both got nice 8 point bucks too, so it was a successful hunt for all.
And, here we are, already into December. Did you remember to say rabbit, rabbit, rabbit yesterday to guarantee good luck and fortune this month? You know it works because look how wealthy I am! We are only 20 days away from the return of the light, so there is something to look forward to. I do enjoy this time of year, and treasure these darker days as a time to rest and recuperate. Since I already have the decorations up and 90% of my gift shopping done, I truly can sit back a bit. I won't do much baking, because my family isn't much into sweets. I used to love making all the cookies and treats, but haveblet it go, and it's probably just as well for our figures. I miss it though.
Well, I must get moving. Lots to do today. The van is loaded for the booths, and I have PT too. See you next time, friends.
Oh my gosh. You were very near to us! If it had been summer, I would have advised you to stop. Barcelona beach is known for its beach glass! In the summer, we pick cherries there.
ReplyDelete...I've been to the Barcelona Light in Westfield, New York. Over last weekend you would have had a problem getting there, the roads were closed due heavy snow.
ReplyDeleteIt was a good question about Erie, so I had to look it up.
ReplyDelete"On average, Lake Erie has about 28.82% ice cover by January 9. However, the amount of ice can vary significantly from year to year. For example, in 2019 and 2020, Lake Erie had zero ice cover by January 9. "
It went on to say that it frozen over completely three times.
We lived on the southern tip of Huron for over three decades, and it didn't freeze over although it may have in part, so I will look that up too.
Apparently, it occurs more than I thought thought. The lakes least likely to freeze are Ontario and Michigan due to their latitude. This surprised me.
Happy December!
ReplyDeleteThat must have been some sight as the fog lifted and the lighthouse appeared. Good for you for being ahead of the holiday game. We aren't behind here, but we're certainly not ahead. :)
ReplyDeleteCold here in KY too and as I type this, some heavy snowfall. The third snow so far, which is early for us! If the tariffs go through it will be rough for all of America. I am not looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteI think it was fairly predictable that Biden would pardon his son. What politicians say and what they do are entirely different things.
ReplyDeleteSherlock Holmes was my introduction to "fog on the moors" and I've never gotten over it. I still love a foggy day or night. You are going great guns with your knee but please don't hurt yourself. Moderation, my dear.
ReplyDeleteI just bought a camera -- a pricey one. But I did it now because of the tariffs and know it is coming from either Japan or China. I'm thinking about a new phone and a new printer before inauguration. I am glad Biden pardoned Hunter -- not that he doesn't deserve punishement in some way but so much of that whole mess was political. And he's his kid. Pardoning family is not without precedent. And having said that -- what will 47 do? Although, he would do it anyway, Biden or not. Keep cozy!
ReplyDelete-8C??? Uhhhh.... Fog I love, though. If not driving, of course!
ReplyDeleteTrump will cause a lot of bad, world-wide.
Oh! Didn´t know about the "rabbit, rabbit, rabbit"! Too late....
Off to do some baking for the Christmas BYO - Pizza-muffins and stuff :-)
I thought I commented on this but I might have Xd out before I hit publish! Interesting about the lake. I'm glad Biden pardoned Hunter. I'm beginning to think he's paid more than enough after that witch hunt! Repercussions, yes, but DT already had plans to do worse and it's not without precedent for family members. You be careful with that knee!!
ReplyDeleteA lot of Lake Erie used to freeze. (I grew up in Windsor, and Erie was 'our' lake.) The Buffalo end gets the hammering from Lake effect, and yes, fog as well as huge snowfalls.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got your deer. Our neighbour, who hunts our land, got theirs on the very last legal day. Phew. We can pack the orange away for another year.
