63°f/17°C, beautifully cool, and no AC running! Clear skies. Humidity about 80%.
I also found a couple cucumbers we missed last night, and found that the Red Sails lettuce, which has grown new leaves since i last picked it, is surprisingly not bitter. Usually by this time the leaf lettuce is inedible, so this is a nice surprise.
Larry tilled up the corn patch, so it's ready to replant this evening. I have some leeks started, and bought some baby box choi seeds yesterday, so those will go in along with more lettuce, radishes, kale...maybe turnips? I will have to see how much space I have. I have never grown bok choi, but many friends do, with great success, so we shall see
We are putting up a solar charger for the electric fence around the garden. I hope it works as advertised. I am looking into solar lights for the chicken house too. Any advice on what would be best? Someone suggested full-spectrum lights, so I have looked into those. Now I am wondering, what number of lumens do I need?
Not much other news here. Just an ordinary late July day that is blessedly cooler for a change. We will heat up again tomorrow, but I am going to enjoy this little gift of today.
We’ve been having a few nice weather days. I think that is going to change soon for a few days.
ReplyDeleteA basket of herbs and a cooler day - it sounds delightful and very productive!
ReplyDeleteNice herb harvest. Do you like to dry your herbs or freeze them?
ReplyDelete...a wonderful cool day here too.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful day with all of those herbs and a bit of coolish weather. I have grown bok choy with good success and I think you will enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the bok choi – I've heard great things too. Hope the solar charger works out for your fence.
ReplyDeleteAs for the chicken house lights, full-spectrum is a good idea! For lumens, it really depends on the size of your coop, but usually, something in the 200-500 lumen range is plenty to give them enough light without being too harsh. You want enough to simulate daylight for egg-laying, but not so much it stresses them out.
Anyway, enjoy this cool day before the heat kicks back in

It's been cooler here too for a couple of days but I see heat ahead.
