63°f/17°C, beautifully cool, and no AC running! Clear skies. Humidity about 80%.
I also found a couple cucumbers we missed last night, and found that the Red Sails lettuce, which has grown new leaves since i last picked it, is surprisingly not bitter. Usually by this time the leaf lettuce is inedible, so this is a nice surprise.
Larry tilled up the corn patch, so it's ready to replant this evening. I have some leeks started, and bought some baby box choi seeds yesterday, so those will go in along with more lettuce, radishes, kale...maybe turnips? I will have to see how much space I have. I have never grown bok choi, but many friends do, with great success, so we shall see
We are putting up a solar charger for the electric fence around the garden. I hope it works as advertised. I am looking into solar lights for the chicken house too. Any advice on what would be best? Someone suggested full-spectrum lights, so I have looked into those. Now I am wondering, what number of lumens do I need?
Not much other news here. Just an ordinary late July day that is blessedly cooler for a change. We will heat up again tomorrow, but I am going to enjoy this little gift of today.
We’ve been having a few nice weather days. I think that is going to change soon for a few days.
ReplyDeleteYes, getting hot here again. Unfortunately.
DeleteA basket of herbs and a cooler day - it sounds delightful and very productive!
ReplyDeleteNice herb harvest. Do you like to dry your herbs or freeze them?
ReplyDeleteI dried these. Later I will mix up an Italian herb mix to give as Christmas gifts. I save small jars just for that.
Delete...a wonderful cool day here too.
ReplyDeleteWasn't it a blessing? We're hot again, but i sure appreciated the break!
DeleteA wonderful day with all of those herbs and a bit of coolish weather. I have grown bok choy with good success and I think you will enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteThe house smelled heavenly! I decided to wait for the weekend, when it will be cooler before I plant though.
DeleteGood luck with the bok choi – I've heard great things too. Hope the solar charger works out for your fence.
ReplyDeleteAs for the chicken house lights, full-spectrum is a good idea! For lumens, it really depends on the size of your coop, but usually, something in the 200-500 lumen range is plenty to give them enough light without being too harsh. You want enough to simulate daylight for egg-laying, but not so much it stresses them out.
Anyway, enjoy this cool day before the heat kicks back in

Thank you, Melody!
DeleteIt's been cooler here too for a couple of days but I see heat ahead.
ReplyDeleteYes, same. Very hot today.
DeleteIt was cooler here too today with an unexpected thunderstorm last night. I need to pull my red leaf lettuce too. A job for tomorrow. Have a great Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteI do love a good storm! We had a few last week.
DeleteI am leaving my lettuce since it tastes fine, so far.
Not much other news? You are funny. I think I lead the most boring life over here....!
ReplyDeleteDo we all think the same about our lives? Another blogger is writing her memoirs and I feel sure her life has had more to write about than mine. My memoirs would not be interesting to anyone!
DeleteI'm trying to decide how much basil to harvest before I leave the lake, knowing that it might die before I return. Or not. You have quite the batch -- well done!
ReplyDeleteI often hang basil to dry, just because it makes the house smell so good.
DeleteMy wife has been giving away harvested herbs left, right and centre!
ReplyDeleteI wish i had someone to give them to. So few people i know actually cook. But I will mail some to family at Christmas, nicely dried and packed in bottles and jars. At least my family cooks!
DeleteLots of work going on in your garden. What do you do with the herbs.... do you dry them or freeze them?
ReplyDeleteI dried these, will freeze some later
ReplyDeleteOur coolish spell broke yesterday when the temperature soared to 32 degrees C - and it was very humid too. Fierce thunderstorms at night.
