Monday Morning

71°f/22°C, cloudy after heavy storms yesterday.

Mural we saw last year in Milton, West Virginia, on the way home from Blenko Glass  tI never got it posted so here ya go! Linking to Sami's Colourful World.

Heat and rain, what a combination! The weather kept us indoors again, as it was either steamy hot or pouring rain most of the day. Some places had flash flooding again. West Virginia's northern panhandle,  where Wheeling is located, has endured so many storms this year.

Saturday afternoon we stopped at Aldi's, which is aboutv30 miles north if where we live, for a few things and we're stuck for about 20 minutes, waiting outside a terrific storm that had high winds, cracking lightning strikes and wind that shook the building and pushed rain in sheets off of cars. I was glad we had not yet left, as I would have hated driving in that mess. After the storm, steam rose from the ground and pavement like heavy fog. One would think we were in thevm tropics!

Today, who knows. Probably more storms, and a high of 93 expected. So we will be inside most of the day, except for a trip to our Ravenswood booth. I made use of yesterday by listing some of the auction items on ebay and making lemon squash bread from this recipe at The Spruce Eats. It is so delicious, more like a lemon pound cake, really. And it uses up a lot of squash! Even though I put out only 2 plants, we are getting overrun. The bread is easy to make, but it is so hard to get out of the pan. I may use parchment paper next time. The recipe makes two loaves,  which is nice because one can go in the freezer.

  1. I am so glad you shared that recipe for lemon squash bread! It is delicious and probably the only reason I grow yellow squash. I use parchment paper and make it longer so I can pull it out of the pan. Now I have to go check and see if I have any squash. Love you bunches

  3. Great mural capture with the hanging baskets of flowers complementing it. Oh no, that bread looks delicious...stay away! Well, certainly take care of using oven while it's so hot! I'll continue to eat pastries and bread and be a rotund happy elder.

  5. The lemon squash bread has me intrigued. I might just have to make it. Having some trouble with squash bugs, per usual :(

  7. Pretty flowers in that mural. Great find Sue. I had never heard of lemon squash bread, might have to give it a try. Storms all over the world, we had a storm a few days ago too, so much rain and wind, glad it was at night and we were safely home. Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Sue.
