Sleepless in Sandyville

71°f/22°C, again. And cloudy, hazy, humid, but no rain today. Just a very odd day, weatherwise.
weather wise.

My $1.00 huge geranium! A local feedstock has all their plants marked down to a dollar. I removed the dead blooms and leaves, and now it looks great, and it is full of buds.

I hate to disappoint you, but the title of this post is nothing near as exciting as new love, and nothing to do with Tom Hanks either.
It's just one old woman who is amazed at those of you who are up at 4:30am every morning  because you can't sleep.

There was no reason for my sleeplessness. Even my knee was fairly painless for a change,  and I hadn't had but 2 cups of coffee, my usual daily dose. But my mind would not settle down. I tried counting, and gave up at 300. Sheep didn't work, and neither did deep breathing. I hadn't gone to bed until a little after 11, my usual, and woke at 2:30. I guess I dozed a bit but by 3:30 I was awake again,  and that was that.

So today was a hard pull, because I can't sleep during the day. But you know how it is, somehow you get that second wind! Fortunately it was an easy day; we stocked booths yesterday and today was just housecleaning, snapping a bucket of beans, doing laundry, a quick trip to town to pick up our milk and butter and some supplies for the new rabbits that may arrive from a friend this week, and pricing a couple totes of things,  with another online auction this evening.
.
My new-to-me hat, found at a thrift last week with the new tags still on it. Now, I need to go somewhere to wear it!

Larry picked the green beans and a couple 5 gallon buckets of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and peppers. He took one of those buckets out to a neighbor whose garden failed this year, and I will deal with the rest tomorrow.

And now it's bedtime. Fingers crossed that I will be Sleeping Beauty tonight!

  1. I have a lot of short nights, but you had a very awake one. I have been back to getting only about 5 hours lately. Sometimes, I get a few minutes of ‘nodding off’ during the day, and it really helps. I am serious about a few minutes — can’t sleep long even then.

  3. Once before I tried Melatonin (gummies I think) and didn't like how I felt drowsy all day. Now at half that dose with little dissolvable tabs, I fall asleep easily, and wake at dawn with only a few times up for peeing. Still can have the 4 am wake for an hour, but not as often. Not giving recommendation, just how my life is these days.

  4. Those sleepless nights are so frustrating. Here's hoping it was an odd occurrence and you're back to sleeping more.

  6. This is terrible. I have the occasional night like this but not often. You are busy on top of being tired!

  7. I cannot stand sleepless (or little sleep) nights! I get them! I find I am getting them more with this heat and humidity! I love thrift stores, and I love the hat you chose...it looks good on you!

  8. I hear you. I can't sleep during the day either, and when the night before is bad -- well, you're OK for a bit and then POW! Hope you can catch up tonight.

  9. That 1$ geranium is a great deal. You look good wearing that hat. Counting is bad...try the breathing technique. The principle is longer exhaling than inhaling. One popular method is the 4-7-8 breathing technique, which involves inhaling for 4 seconds, holding for 7 seconds, and exhaling for 8 seconds.

  10. I hate when I wake in the night and can't get back to sleep. My mind can seem so busy with the things that are bugging me...
Hope you get a good sleep tonight. Oh, and the hat is great on you!
