2°f/-16.7°C, some sun with thin clouds
How it goes here most days:
- Coffee, tea, word puzzles, email, etc.
- Get dressed, make the bed
- Start the laundry, clean up the bathroom
- He goes out to feed and water the critters
- I make breakfast--scrambled eggs with cheese and diced tomatoes, toast with apple butter, grapes, apple cider, coffee today
- Kitchen cleanup, get out stuff to make dinner
- Sweep the floors, put clothes in the dryer
By then, it's noon. And so starts most days around here, with some variation of course, but basically, that's our exciting life. Which, I think, is not unlike that of many people. We go about our routines, taking care of ourselves and our homes, being the backbone of our families, communities, country.
Thinking about this today was prompted by finding a chapbook of poems I wrote about people I've known or met along the way. In light of all those ordinary Minnesotans, this particular poem, the introduction to the book, really struck me. I just snapped a photo of the page.
Minnesotans, you are making history today, and recording it for all of us. I am sure that most of you never had any intention of becoming headline news. Here's to you, out there protecting this place we all hold dear. Stay safe, and keep holding that flame high.

It is hard not to feel as if we are seeing a change.
ReplyDeleteWe have our routines and patterns. Mine start in my chair with my tablet, my first item being the same as yours, but I think it takes me longer. Short night last night, but I had a few pretty good ones before that. Who knows why the change.
ReplyDelete,,,the Minnesotans are a hardy bunch, RESIST!
ReplyDeleteThe poem is an important reminder of the every day people in Minnesota and elsewhere that make the real difference in the world.
ReplyDeleteoops interrupted or hit the wrong button. What I was trying to say was I second your honoring Minnesotans!
ReplyDeleteExcellent poem, and honoring the people who are coming out and suffering the cold for our freedoms is also worth while. Routines of the day are sometimes changeable...and I've determined to change one thing in mine today. Just a small change, but hard to actually accomplish in breaking a habit that isn't all that positive.
ReplyDeleteThe protest yesterday was huge, actually the whole country participated. Bruce Springsteen showed up at First Avenue for a rally headed by Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine. Chicago and New Jersey unite in Minnesota!
ReplyDeleteMy routine should take a lesson from your routine. I tend to do nothing in the morning.
The poem is perfect for the wonderful brave people in Minnesota. I don't envy them and am sorry they are going through this. Sadly, the maniac in our White House is such a low life and we all need to resist. Go Minnesota. I applaud you, keep the flame burning. We surely need it, we need you.
ReplyDeleteI do hope change is coming.
ReplyDeleteDitto.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very meaningful poem.
ReplyDeleteDunno, if blogger commented, suddenly all was gone. We´re on the hot, slow side here.
ReplyDeleteBravo. This is just wonderful. Well done, Sue.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, as a Canadian I just can't believe what's happening in Minnesota!
