Marietta Booth Update

32 and sunny, but now in later afternoon it is colder, cloudy and showering.

A day of working on furniture again, as we get ready to take new items to our booths in Ravenswood. A lot of layaway furniture will be leaving the mall on Friday, so we need to take new things in. I'll have photos of the changes, I hope, over the weekend, but first here's a look at what we did in Marietta this past Monday:

These two tables have been patiently waiting for a moth for their chance to shine in one of our booths.

I really like this green color. I'm thinking of using it here in my house, somewhere. Maybe in the kitchen?

Shelves full of good stuff. I try to theme them a bit but don't get crazy with it. I think too perfect makes people afraid to take anything away.

I just love this lamp. It's been electrified, but that could easily be reversed if someone preferred it as an oil lamp.

I can see many places where I could be hanging more things on the pegboard, and there was also some empty places on the shelves, so I will need to bring more to stuff this space full.

Now, back to paint and wax. I'd much rather be here, visiting with all of you.

Booth Update: Marietta

10 this morning, clear and bright. Warming up fast.

It's been a while since I posted photos of our Marietta, Ohio booth at the Antique Mall of Marietta. So here's a peek.

The globe, chest, and trencher bowl were additions this last visit.

We decided to just rub down the old chest and leave as it is. It has such a cool vintage vibe to it.

Two chairs also went in "as is". They really needed nothing, and it seemed silly to paint them. Added the Watts bog bowl and the copper kettle too. The wagon wheel we brought in last time we restocked.

Pretty colors to go with a cottage or farmhouse decor theme.

My collection of Jadeite dishes is slowing selling down. It's harder and harder to find for a reasonable price.

The dishes on the right are Trenle Blake, and were made right here in Jackson county, WV, in Ravenswood where our other booths are located.

This picture surprised me. It showed up in our booth, and it is ours, but where has it been for the last many months?? It has an old price sticker I was using 3 years ago, and was sitting on the floor. So I suppose it wandered into someone else's booth and they just realized it wasn't theirs.

Framed art is a hard sell, but the hunting prints seem to move, and I am hoping someone will love the swans as much as I do. They may end up back here yet, on my own wall.

New reproduction items--I add a few here and there, but try not to have too many at one time.

I'm kind of surprised the white metal cabinet is still here. They tend to walk out as soon as we move them in. I'm glad it's still here because I need the display space in this corner.

Blue and white china is ever popular. I added the sweet little pitcher in front and the elephant teapot this trip.

There are still quite a few people who collect vintage tumblers, so I try to keep a small collection on hand.

My real love, of course, is vintage kitchenware. It sure shows in my booths.

Marble-top furniture is not popular these days, and I am not sure why. It's so nice to not have to worry about marring a top. I think we may be sitting on this dresser for a while. Or might exchange it for one we have here at home because I like it very much. It's priced low at 125.00 but so interest so far.

This shelf is sort of a catchall, I guess. I try to theme it a little, but it collects whatever I didn't get in elsewhere. Being on the aisle it gets a good bot of traffic.

Booths and Gardens

55 and foggy, with a clear day expected. Some light rain last evening and the evening before has been a blessing.

I am so grateful for these cooler mornings. The little bit of rain we got wasn't nearly enough, but it helped cool things down. And the heavy fog and dew added a little more moisture so the gardens look happier, and so do we. We will have to water again this evening, but we had a day or two respite.

Not much news from here. We stocked our Marietta booth yesterday but I forgot to take photos. July was probably the best month we have ever had at this location, clearing enough to pay all our taxes for the year--here in WV that's personal property, real estate, the business taxes and tax on our gas well. That's a good feeling. Riverbend booths are also doing exceptionally well, again probably the best month we've ever had.

We restocked Riverbend Friday. Here's a few photos of the changes.

The dressing table we took in last week. Below is the stool that goes with it.

A different way to display hankies--in a spoon rack.

The Delta variant of Covid has us worried, however. Will this become the Covid Journal again? I hope not. Larry has a trip to Florida coming up, and the news from there isn't good. He'll be at his sister's home and not traveling around but still there are the airports. In our county there are currently 21 cases, but after fair week I expect that number to go up. I guess it's time to mask up again, although the masks we have are not the kind that can protect us, but just protect others from us. Still, every little bit helps, I suppose.

On the garden front, Larry picked and we shelled limas the other day. It's the first time we've raised them, and they've done well except Larry jumped the gun and picked most of them too soon. But since we've not raised them before he wasn't sure when exactly to pick. There's another bunch coming on soon, so they'll be bigger beans I'm sure. Even so we got enough for half a dozen meals and I'm happy since it was only a half row. We'll grow more of them next year.

The tomatoes are starting to ripen fast now, and I'll be making Jenn's chili sauce today. We really liked it; it makes a fast and easy meal with kielbasa or other sausage and put over rice or pasta. We're eating tomatoes three meals a day, heaven in my book. Mostly what we have right now are the Black Crims, Indigo Cherry, and German Pinks. All are heritage varieties and are really producing. The late cabbages are doing very well despite the drought, a testament to Larry's watering. My late lettuce, kale, beets, onions and squash in the small rock-walled garden are all doing well once they got large enough that Clyde the cat quit digging in there. That was frustrating; I'll need to find a way to keep him out if there is such a way.

That's about all the news for now. I hope all of you are well and getting a little rain. Seems like it's dry almost everywhere.

Covid Journal, Day 349: Booth Changes

25 and clear this morning, and a beautiful, sunny day to follow. Feeling like Spring. Now, at 7: in the evening, it's showering. Again. Flooding is expected to continue for the flood-prone areas, unfortunately.

We've worked in both booths recently, bringing in new pieces to replace things that have sold. We've been so fortunate to be still selling well even with the uncertainty of the pandemic and the economy. I count my blessings for sure.

So here's our Ravenswood booths:

This was a medical cabinet, the seller told us. He didn't know its provenance, except that it had belonged to his grandparents. I'm guessing it's a 1940's-50's manufacture, but it's pretty cool. There's a black glass slideout shelf that a friend suggested might have been for reading x-rays. Maybe, I'm not sure.the cabinet appears to be made of walnut and is quite heavy and sturdy.

I added some twinkle lights, since someone had drilled holes in the back--apparently they'd used it for a TV cabinet at some point.

This dresser was literally in pieces when we bought it, and had some broken wood to boot. It took some time and energy, but it's sturdy now, and look how pretty. Normally I would not have painted such beautiful wood, but the repairs had to be obvious, so paint covered that. I left as much wood showing as possible though.

I think I showed this little cabinet before. Just added the globes and a few other things to it.

The red chair has gone from Halloween to Christmas to Valentine's decor, and now it's displaying Easter. I swear, if someone doesn't buy it soon I'll be bringing it home because I do like it.

This isn't new--it's the "junky" corner. I really need to figure out some other way to display all this stuff. Any ideas? Maybe just another, narrow shelf? I think this is about 30 inches, maybe less.

And then at Marietta, we sold a flatwall cabinet, surprise surprise--we rarely sell big pieces there, so I was using it a display piece. So you can imagine all the stuff that was on the floor and everywhere when the mall people had to empty it out. We brought in this cute little desk to replace it, and had to do some creative re-arranging to fit everything back in. Those are coal miner's boots beside the desk. I had them listed on eBay for a good while; they didn't sell so I thought I'd try them here. They're collectible, right? Well...

We brought in the white chair too, and those cute potholders.

Just trying to jam everything in. This is a much smaller space, about a quarter the size of what we have in Ravenswood, so I really have to make the space count. See the aluminum coffepot at the top center? Someone stole the glass knob off the top. Can you believe that? So annoying. I think I have one to fit it, but will have to wait for the next trip to try it out.

Copper, I hear, is making a comeback. You couldn't prove it by me. I've had these copper pieces on sale for a while. I like copper myself.

The old wavy glass mirror is still hanging around too. I really don't want to paint the frame, as that's the original paint.

The copper kettle looks like a Simplex, and it was made in England like the Simplex kettles. It might be one, but not marked. I considered keeping this too, actually bought it for myself, but I don't need it, so...

As you can see, it's a very full booth. I try to make sure there's plenty of floor space, but it's a challenge. I miss all the space we used to have here, but we're actually making better money from this downsized space.
