19°f, -7°C, clear.
The warm-up continues today, snow melting fast and mud to follow. Ugh. The driveway will soon be a sheet of ice which should make getting up and down it...interesting. Nothing like slipping and sliding to get the adrenaline pumping.
But we must go out today to stock our booths. Sales have been slow but there have been sales, and we need to freshen things up and get some of what I have priced out of my kitchen.
Tomorrow will be a busy day too. Larry has an early morning stress test, then we will drive to Columbus to pick up granddaughter Sarah, who will be here for a short visit and to work a bit on her cabin.
Meanwhile, yesterday I chopped up 4 bags of onions for the freezer and the dehydrator. We bought them on clearance as some in the bags were sprouting. I separated the non-sprouted and put those in the bottom fridge drawer to prevent that from happening, then cup up the rest, chopping the green sprouts separately and vacuum-sealing them for the freezer to use as green onions. The rest are in the dehydrator and should finish drying this morning. They will be handy for soups, pot roasts, and stews.
My hands still smell like onion, so I am off to Google how to de-stink them. Why don't I learn to wear gloves!
Well, I hope that you got your hands descented before bedtime to prevent dreams of french onion soup all night long. There is a produce store that puts peppers that are past their prime on special 2 or even 3 for $1. I buy those and keep them chopped up and in a bag in the freezer. When my onions start to go, I do the same. Do you do that with other vegetables as well?
ReplyDeleteI didn't, Debby, and the smell bothered me all night. Brilliant move, that. I got them descended this morning. I sound like a skunk, don't I!
DeleteYes, I do the same as you. If I find veggies that I don't already have at a bargain price, I stock up. I even bought and canned pineapple a few times when they were .99. And have frozen broccoli and cauliflower when they're a great price.
We're warming up too, but not enough to melt the snow (more of which is predicted today, though it's so sunny and actually blue sky -- a Michigan rarity -- I wonder if it will materalize. I hope not!
ReplyDelete...mud season, what a wonderful time of year.
ReplyDeleteWe have just reached up to the freezing point, but we are also under a weather advisory for high winds. Good luck navigating the ice.
ReplyDeleteWe are warming up too. A bit of mud, but I am glad to see the snow go away. Be careful with the ice.
ReplyDeleteSometimes, I use lemon juice to get the smell of onions off my hands. Works okay. Safe travels during ice and mud season.
ReplyDeleteWindy and very cool here but a warming period is heading our way.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that quite a trip to Columbus, OH for you?
ReplyDeleteI have read lemon juice, dish soap and rub hands on a stainless steel implement! Kathy
ReplyDeleteI was going to suggest lemon juice to rid your hands of the onion smell but I see it has already been mentioned. I expect the onions make your eyes water too:)
