It's big. It's square. It has big flat eyes and it rumbles.
Why, it's the FedEx truck coming down our driveway! Astonishing to see so large a vehicle on our road, and at eight in the evening at that.
The young driver's face was dirt-streaked as he handed me my package.
"Goodness!" I said. "I can't believe you came all the way out here."
"Ma'am," he said (he really did say Ma'am. I was so impressed), "I go everywhere. All over Roane County, Wirt County, in town, up hollers. I won't finish until 10 o'clock tonight."
"I'd offer you a glass of wine," I said, "but I guess your company wouldn't like it."
"I'd almost take it," he grinned, remounting his great white monster. Then he rumbled up and away on his rounds.
I almost felt guilty about ordering things online and dragging that poor boy down my road.
Almost.
lol...sure beats sitting in pollution and traffic jams :)
