Flying Low and Fast

I might as well be twittering with these short posts!

Today doesn't seem to have an end. I'm still printing material for the Book Festival booth tomorrow, packing things for the booth, and trying to figure out what to wear. Clothes are a little tricky when I will be:
  • working in the book sale area first,
  • then running to tell stories at the noon storytelling concert,
  • then off to have lunch with my favorite new author Fran Cannon Slayton,
  • then work the storytelling guild's booth
  • and then back to work at the book sale end-of-day clean-up.

With BOTH pairs of my favorite black pants in the laundry, I'm up a gum stump.

Larry says it's a sure thing that I'll have something on when I leave here, so why worry? You'd think he'd be the one with low blood pressure with that attitude, wouldn't you?

Back to printing and prepping--and hunting through the closet.

  1. "I'm up a gum stump" had me ROFL!

Good luck at the festival and with getting dressed for it!

  2. Larry's right, though. I'm sure you've never appeared without clothes . . . how about one of your lovely long skirts?

  3. That's funny, Susanne. You know I just saw you there a few hours ago, and I can't remember what you finally decided to wear.I guess that shows you that we worry too much about our clothes.

  5. We had a fine day! Getting dressed--well, I washed my favorite black pants by hand and threw them in the dryer last night, added a black shell and a dark red jacket and a necklace. That way I could pull off the jacket and pull on my book festival t-shirt over the shell and be ready for whatever else I had to do. And Janet, oyu're right--no one really notices what we're wearing unless it's outlandish.

As it turned out, the tidy-up was easy so I didn't need to change at all. The wildest part of the day was the morning in the Collector's Corner of the sale. More about all of it tomorrow night. Right now I've got signs to print--again.

  6. Susan, it is so funny what expressions we use without thinking. I often say I'm hornswoggled, for example. Where does that word come from? No idea, really, but I bought this book at the book sale of British proverbs from the 17th and 18th centuries (for $3!) and I bet I'll find out where the word comes from as soon as I get time to look it up.

Up a gum stump is an Appalachian saying, I'd guess, referring to an animal that chose a stump to climb when being pursued. Can't go up and can't go down. Pretty much hornswoggled, I'd say.

  7. Me too Fran! Thank you for taking the time; I know your schedule was crowded. I'll see you again soon, I hope.
