Dirty Work

37 this morning, another sunny day.

So there was this old store building you might remember me mentioning in a past post. We bought several pieces of furniture that had been stored in there, but my eye was also on the shelving on the walls.

Such beautiful wide boards! Have you priced lumber lately? It is through the roof. The owners of the old building plan to pull it down and burn it, so I asked about the shelving.  Take all you want, they said, we just won't be responsible for accidents.

That's what we did this afternoon. 2 hours' work yielded a truck full of lumber and 2 very dirty people---one of them a banged up old lady who pulled a bit too hard on a shelf that suddenly came loose. Just a scratch on my arm, and a LOT of dirt on my clothes!

We got about half of what was there, and will  make another trip soon. Right now, I am enjoying being clean again after a long, hot shower.

It was so satisfying to salvage this nice wood, and we will have many uses for it. Tomorrow, we will unload, pull all the nails, and stack it away in the lumber shed.

How i wish i had seen this store in its heyday,, with the shelves full of canned goods,, racks of fabric,, automotive supplies and more. It must have been a busy place.

Bye for now, old store. See you soon.

  2. Great to recover the lumber...which was surprisingly in good shape. Thanks to the store having a good roof that kept the structure and wood throughout undamaged.
