52, thunder, lightning and heavy rain. It is very dark for this time of morning.
Of course I had to look up "thunder in January", because there must be some folklore about it. And there is. From the website Texasescapes.com comes this: "One old wives’ tale suggests that thunder in the winter means there will be snow within a week to 10 days. Another says thunder in January means there will be a crop-killing frost early in the fall. Another January thunder tale predicts great floods for the month of June."
Well. I don't mind the snow at all, but great floods and crop-killing frosts we can do without.
Speaking of snow, we have had very little this year. Usually our January has at least several good Dustin's but so far, nada. In fact this is the warmest winter I can ever remember. Is this true where you are?
The front of storms came through, with thunder booming away earlier, and then later some wind and lots of rain. Some areas south of us had tornado warnings, but we're ok. We've been above average temps for 4 days, and will have 2-3 below average. The next wave of clouds will coat the mountains with up to a foot, but with our temp above freezing I don't see the 1/2 inch we're forcast to stick at all. Climate change is definitely affecting all kinds of storms.
ReplyDeleteWe had snow off and on all day, but no accumulation. But in the mountains it will be a different story! We are in the foothills of the Alleghenies here.
DeleteVery rarely do we get thunder storms here.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, the ships in my photo are fishing ships.
Ah, fishing ships, not fishing boats. Big difference there. Thanks, Bill!
