...And Tables and Dressers and Such Too: The Spencer Booth

More booth updates! We sold a few pieces of furniture this week at our Spencer booth, so yesterday we loaded up and headed over there to restock. Given how slow February was for sales until the past few days, we were right happy to hear things were moving again.

We sold that sweet little red wood kitchen table with 2 chairs; I almost hated to see it go. So we brought in this red-trimmed kitchen utility table and two primitive chairs that we'd actually been using in our kitchen. We seem to be playing musical chairs--we keep selling the ones we're using and digging a couple more out of the storage building. Yeah, we have a lot of chairs around here.

We brought in the Hoosier-style cabinet a few weeks ago. I still have not found he name of the maker of this unique cabinet with its central mirror.

And this is the dresser I've been working on for the past few weeks. I love the way it turned out. We also brought in the two mirrors above it, and the little marble-topped table beside it on the right.

The milk glass display continues. I know it's not a popular glass right now, but I think it's gorgeous when it's grouped, and has such a serene look to it. A few pieces have sold from this display, 2 to members of a Facebook group of milk glass lovers. I have found that listing photos in online groups has resulted in sales that could not have happened otherwise.

In the pink! There's a nice sized set of this pink china in my booth, and reasonably priced too. Maybe someone will love it for their spring table. The pink depression glass is

A mixture of all kinds of cool things on this shelf! Some Pyrex, Smiley Pig pitcher, watering can, Poppies teapot, soup tureen, herb mugs...you name it, it's probably here.

I need to do something different here, just ran out of time last night. Next trip!

I've been considering bringing this china cabinet home for my own china. I have mine in an old flatwall cabinet right now that doesn't really showcase it very well. So maybe I'll swap them out if this one doesn't sell soon. Notice a different use for the magazine table--storage for pretty plates.

Tabletop display. I sell my County Living magazines when I'm finished with them.

I painted this little teacup shelf, and decoupaged the back of it with rose and teacup prints. And can you even see all that work? Nope. But that's okay, I know it's there,

Notice the rake head with the pink wineglasses--I wish I had room somewhere in my own kitchen to do this! So many cool ideas, so little space. It's a problem all of us lovers of old things deal with.

That's a quick tour of this small booth. It's been a good place for us, and we really enjoy being in this mall, as we do in all our other places. Good stock and helpful staff really make a store successful and the people who run these places are among the very best.

The Spencer Booth

This has been a busy week with the booths; not just stocking them but also painting and pricing things. We didn't expect to be back at our Spencer booth today but we found this amazing buffet yesterday afternoon and decided it needed to go straight to a booth rather than trying to store it. And the only booth with any space for it was the one in Spencer.

I love the detail on this, and it still has all the original pulls, too. Why isn't my house big enough for it?!

 I enjoy arranging things in my booths. This one I wanted to give a warm feel with a hint of fall colors, so I chose a lot of ruby and amber pieces.

And remember the green sideboard I painted this week? It's now in the booth and is also sporting a fall look.

This booth is pretty full, but I still have space on the wall, and in the two china cabinets in this area.

A pretty cobalt-edged tea set is called Queen's China and was made in England. I picked it up for a song and almost priced it way too low. I took a few minutes to look it up, and my goodness! The amber candle holders are Fenton's thumbprint pattern.

I may take this old chest of drawers home if it doesn't sell in the next couple months. It would be stunning if we refinished it, but right now we don't have time to take it on. Maybe this winter it will be one of our projects, although I hope someone just buys it as is and does the refurbishing themselves. We've got plenty lined up to work on already.

Glass, glass, glass, how I love it! The blue piece on the left kept me busy trying to find its maker and age. Finally a Facebook vintage glass group identified it as Kemple Glass Company of Kenova, WV, a company in business from 1945-1970. Kemple used old molds of McKee glass, which is why this confused me--the pattern and style looked out, but the color seemed wrong. The middle one is, I believe, by Jeannette and called "Lombardi"--made in the 50's. The last is Indiana Glass' diamond point pattern.

And here is the little gossip bench I painted this past week, all settled in to our other Spencer booth.

I like the way it looks with that red and ivory Hoosier cabinet. I pulled a lot of fall colors into this booth too.

We picked up the small drop-front desk last week; it's a perfect size for a kitchen or bedroom desk.

Here's a better look at the little desk. I had some wiggling to do to get everything into my spaces this week.

A few more additions to the booth: old tin canisters and a sweet little green spice rack. We lucked out yesterday--we went to the local Bargain Days flea market (only held a couple times a year) and although there were few vendors, there was one lady who had tables full of things from her mother's house. We picked up quilts and quilt tops, crockery, thimbles, and a lot of kitchenware at absolutely dirt cheap prices. I took some of it to the booth after giving it a good washing. These canisters were from that lot.

Another small shelf in this booth could still hold a few more things. Next trip I'll be reorganizing this one.

That's all the photos I took today. There were a few people browsing so I was limited a bit by what I could take. Next trip perhaps I'll be able to take more.

Booth Update: The Spencer Booth

Our new booth in Spencer Antique Mall is growing! Here are photos of the booth today. We've added quite a few new pieces over the past few weeks. (I apologize for the picture quality; apparently my camera battery was dying.)

Don't you love the old GC Murphy sign over my booth? It's not mine; the store is located in the building that formerly housed GC Murphy's. The City of Spencer now operates the mall, a unique arrangement, I think, and a good one for the city as the mall attracts visitors from all over to this pretty country town.

We found some great furniture at a yard sale, of all places, last weekend. It went straight to the booth, and we cleaned it up there. Nothing major needed, just Windex and polish. My favorite is the dresser pictured above. The mirror is just stunning. Below is a photo of the dresser top items.

The dresser to the right in the photo below has an Empire-style mirror that we managed to forget--twice. So that means another trip to the booth to get it put in place. I also need to do more work to arranging items on top of the china cabinet.

I especially love this sideboard. It even has its original back mirror, which is often missing on these pieces.

A closer look at the items on the sideboard; one of the joys of selling is getting to arrange things to show well.

Two smaller cabinets, not old but useful and decorative. The lower one is lighted, which is nice for displaying glassware. It does not seem to have ever been plugged in before; the plug still had a cover over it.

 I love love love this little table and two chairs set. I began painting them last month and finally got the chair seats covered just last night.

There are two iron beds hanging on the wall behind the table. Both have their rails; one is a full size, one is twin.

Looking into the booth. The curved china cabinet is a newer manufacture but is in very good condition, with glass shelves and curved glass sides. I still need to put more items inside it, but held off since both this and the older china cabinet were on hold for a potential buyer today.

This part has been done for a while although I keep adding items and changing it up.

 Red, white and blue display for July on the round table. 

 A wall full of utensils and oddments seems to get a lot of attention, and these items sell well.

The box holds vintage decoupage Christmas ornaments. The quilt is really lovely, made of feed sacks.

We've sold several windows in this booth, but the blue door is still with us. The sifter cabinet has a lot of lookers but so far no bites. I like this one so well, I'd love to just bring it home. If only I had a mansion to hold all the things I like! Maybe it's just as well I don't because I'd have to hire help to clean it.

That's the quick tour of this new location. The Spencer Antique Mall is located in the heart of Spencer, WV, right across from the courthouse. It's a lovely country drive to Spencer, and there are several other shops in the town for browsing and shopping.

Booth Updates

We've been busy restocking booths over the weekend. Here's a quick look at what we've done:

At Ravenswood, we added a little wood desk and that cute white chair I showed in an earlier post after I'd painted it white.

 We also put the "new" dinette set here, joining a table with the newly refurbished chairs. I think they make a great set. The canisters were a recent find; I love the red bakelite knobs on the hinged lids.

Here's another look at the cedar chest Larry refinished. Isn't it a beauty?

 And another view of the desk. The teapot lamp was a find from a Facebook seller who has become a friend. Seems like it usually works that way!

At Marietta, we had to do some rearranging as the old doors we took in last week were all sold already! That made us happy--and made for some work too. So we moved the Sellers "chimney cupboard" to the empty space, along with that sweet little green metal shelf. That left space in another area for another addition to this booth. More on that in a minute.

 We also added the wicker planter, below. Wicker seems to sell well at this location. It could be because of all the large Victorian homes in the area; those porches just cry out for wicker. We've had the retro wicker hamper a while. It might sell better if it was white, but who could paint over that neat art deco design?

 And here's what we added to the space left empty when we moved the Sellers cabinet: that blue dinette set that we had at Ravenswood. We had planned to put the red set here at Marietta and then remembered there is a law in Ohio that upholstered items newer than 50 years have to be specially treated because of bedbugs. I don't think there is a problem with bedbugs in Marietta, but still, we can't have upholstered pieces here. So we moved this piece from Ravenswood to this booth, and I think in the end both places benefited.

I found a lot of blue items in the booth to add to the table, just for fun.

 Another thing I changed was that I finally realized that the Tom's snack rack I'd had for sale would make a dandy cup rack! So now it's in service and I can display quite a few mugs in a relatively small space. How did I not think of that before?

At Spencer, we brought in another shelf and a few more totes, but the booth is a long way from being full.

I think I can probably bring about 5-6 more totes in before it will be completely full. A small booth like this one (it's about 9x12) can hold  lot more than you might think.
