25 and a heavy frost again this morning. Rain expected tonight.
In Parkersburg, a town of about 30,000--and 4th largest in West Virginia--there is a district of beautiful historic houses, some dating back as far as 1830 and possibly earlier. The area where the best of these homes are located is called Julia-Ann Square, and within the area is the former home of the state's first governor, Arthur Bozeman, elected when West Virginia was formed, in the midst of the Civil War.
Each Christmas a tour of a few of these homes is offered, and this year I wanted to go. I had met the owners of one of the homes when they visited the antique mall when I was working, and their enthusiasm convinced me to go.
So Sunday my friend L. and her 9 year old granddaughter and I headed to Parkersburg. We stopped for lunch at Cracker Barrel, where a beautiful fire was burning merrily in the huge fireplace.
The Sunday tour was self-paced, not a guided tour like the ones on Friday and Saturday. This suited us better since having a young one with us might not have worked out so well.
We had a wonderful time, even though we only got to 4 of the 5 homes. Self-paced was perfect as we could take our time in the places we wanted to linger, could skip steep stairs to third floors if we wanted to, and could meander along the streets. I was taking lots of pictures, of course!
Here are just a few of them.

More tomorrow!
What beautiful old homes...and lavishly decorated. I assume people still live in them, since they don't seem to be museums! And I note one photo of people dressed in period outfits!
